THE CAUSE: CHILDREN OF THE WORLD

750 million people around the world remain illiterate, with a fifth of children not attending school; help us to rebuild young lives today for a better tomorrow.

At Muslim Charity, we want every child to be able to enjoy being just that, a child. We want to protect those most vulnerable and allow them to thrive in a safe environment. With your help, we can provide shelter, education and a loving home and equip them with the skills and knowledge to better their lives and their communities.

Working in some of the harshest environments you can imagine, we have been able to rescue thousands of children from the street where abuse and exploitation was all they have known.

You will need to purchase or hire a bike box. These can be hired for around £100 for the journey, or purchased outright for £300. Please note, Muslim Charity is not responsible for any loss, damage or theft of your cycle during transportation, or while taking part in this challenge.

We recommend a road bike for this Bangladesh bike tour. However, you can ride any bike of your choosing, so long as you’ll be able to ride for 3-4 hours per day, and keep up with the groups. If you do not have a bike, please get into contact with us as we may be able to loan you a bike for this challenge.

We will be cycling between 40 and 90 km a day, mainly on flat terrain. This trip has been designed for cyclists with a good level of riding experience and fitness. From what we’ve seen in prior challenges, participants tend to naturally split into groups based on speed/ability.

Each group will have a support vehicle. Although the routes will be available to download on bike computers, we do not encourage people to ride on their own. We will set time aside between rides for breaks.

Anyone can sign up. We’ll have separate men’s and women’s groups during the ride. Although, all participants must feel comfortable with the daily riding distances involved, and cycling on the road.

Anyone interested in experiencing the impact of Muslim Charity’s work in Bangladesh while enjoying the beauty, sights and sounds of this wonderful country, should sign up. Participants must be 18 years or older before the date of departure and be of good health for travel.

We will stay in comfortable 3-star hotels. These have been carefully selected for their service, comfort, and safety. All hotels have been vetted by our staff and evaluated by our volunteers on previous trips. We will let you know the exact details of the hotels when we release the final itinerary 4 weeks before travel.
Single-sex accommodation will be provided and each hotel room will be shared by two participants (Participants can pay – supplement for a single room where available).
Due to a tight travel schedule, participants will be asked to stay in Muslim Charity provided accommodation/hotels. Muslim Charity will ensure that selected accommodation/hotels are secure, safe, and comfortable for participants.

We recommend small luggage so it’s easy to transport. You will be living ‘out your suitcase’ as the Bangladesh bike tour is fast paced. Please think of layers when travelling so you can add and subtract easily as the weather changes.
Also, in the evenings temperatures can drop so please bring a warm fleece or comfortable jacket. Comfortable closed toe shoes are a must. Please think of the various terrains involved which will require shoes that are comfortable, and worn in. Also, some comfortable sandals or flip flops are ideal for the evening and when we are travelling between places. The usual essentials should also be packed – toiletries, cameras, 2 pin plug adapters, chargers, sunglasses etc.

We kindly request all our participants to be friendly, and mindful of local faiths and cultures by adopting appropriate clothing and behaviour. When interacting with children, we ask that you seek permission before holding and interacting with them.
We will fully brief you before each visit to make sure that we follow the ground partner guidelines and adhere to all Muslim Charity policies with regards to child protection. During your travel you will also meet vulnerable families and communities. Therefore, we request you not to offer cash or any other gift to any person. If you wish to help someone, please talk to a TEAMMC representative who will advise further.
